History

Suttons is an Australian family business that has grown to become an integral part of the transport industry for over 50 years, and prides itself on its ability to accommodate its customers complex needs.

Sutton Transport was established in 1948 by Jack Sutton who was involved in a tile factory (Gregson Gorsutch) Beginning with one KS International truck, Jack delivered roof tiles, unloading them at site by hand.

Jacks son Alan started with the company as a 19 year old in 1965 at which time they increased their fleet to 2 trucks – an AB C-Line International and a J6 Tonne Bedford.

When Jack passed away and left the business to his wife, she then sold the company to Alan Sutton and he operated with just one truck – An Acco – Dual Cab

Alan had two sons, Michael and Daniel – but it was Michael who started driving for the company at the age of 18 so the fleet was again increased to two.

In 2006, Alan retired and Michael took over the business and started to expand its transport operations to include stocking and selling roofing batten, transporting pavers, bricks, scaffold and play equipment. With the increased workload, he took on extra drivers and started to build his fleet of Scania trucks. He started running the operations full time from the yard office.

In 2009, Michael asked his brother Daniel to join the company to help manage and run the operations in unison with himself, with Alan coming in to help out driving where required.

In 2012, Michael purchased his first Western Star Truck and starting working on the road again and has now replaced all but one Scania with new Western Star Trucks which he takes to local truck shows.
